Scanned Life 2010 Digital C-Print 12x9 inches
"Mia Brownell is quite unique in her approach to the photograph. Rather than the familiar eye of a camera, Mia utilizes the eye of a digital scanner. By laying out grapes and pears, with their attendant calligraphy of stems and vines, on a scanner bed, Mia Brownell creates compositions that appear free from the confines of gravitational space and pressed against the eye itself: succulent fruits that move in and out of focus against a semi-opaque cloud of luminous whiteness."
